Nokia Indoor positioning Technology
“Nokia is working on ways to provide accurate indoor positioning using readily available infrastructures such as Wi-Fi hotspots and mobile clients. Our work with standards bodies to create open APIs will enable much more rapid rollout of these compelling services without the high cost and effort of current systems.”
In 2010 in London Nokia Research Centre demonstrated a concept of navigating indoors. Now, there’s a new version of that system with promotional video.
A positioning beacon, which acts like a “satellite” but indoors. It is placed on the ceiling and can track how far you are from your desired destination in real-time and is accurate up to 30cm.
A special tracking device, which can be attached to various objects and clothes is available, too. With its help, Nokia’s Indoor Positioning can track valuables or even people for that matter. Useful if you have a bad habit of misplacing your belongings.
